TV killed the creative chopper-building spirit…

Its too bad...

So I was at home with my leg elevated, doctor’s orders, watching TV when my DVR was nice enough to tell me that Chopper Challenge was on CMT. I got excited for a second thinking that I was going to see the crew from Powerplant put together a bike.
Then this truck shows up with all these parts and then they give the shop a theme and a deadline. The crew from Powerplant did a good job carving up the parts they ended up with – heck, they even got another frame. But like a bunch of the other builders that have been on this show, the whole thing felt staged and while the end result was unmistakable as a Powerplant bike, it just missed the mark compared to the other bikes they have built. Maybe it is because there isn’t a customer involved, or that the builders feel limited by the selection of parts provided and the 30-day deadline.

I honestly believe that was Matt Hotch’s secret to winning all of the Biker Build-Offs that he did. He had a customer in mind before each of the builds and kinda constructed those bikes with "Customer-X" in mind and it actually gave him something to strive for.

Hell maybe it is the way that particular show is edited. Or it could be just me and the fact that I was all hopped up on pain medication. Who knows?
